Uncle Max is Calvin's uncle on his dad's side. He came to visit in one story, where Calvin plays many pranks on him and in the end, tries to leave with him on his plane. According to Watterson, he was supposed to open up story options, but created too awkward a setting. Max is now gone from the strip.
