The daughter of the United States Ambassador to Ireland, Carolyne spent her formative years growing up among the rolling green hills of the Emerald Isle. When she was in her mid-teens, her father was reassigned and ordered to move back to the United States. And although she had been born in Seattle, it felt nothing at all like home. Carolyne adapted well to life in America, having learned from her father to be adaptable and to pick her battles.

Her life changed forever on her sixteenth birthday, when her mental powers manifested for the first time. The overlapping volume of their thoughts bombarded her untrained mind, and she instinctively lashed out, rendering all the attendees, including her family, unconscious. After her father used his influence to make up a cover story about a gas main leak, Carolyne all but isolated herself as she mastered her newfound abilities. She found that her natural talent for working with numbers helped both focus her mind and block the thoughts of others.

Earning her degree in Accounting, Carolyne went to work in the private sector, never intending to use her abilities. However, fate had different intentions as on her lunch break one afternoon, she was witness to a bank robbery in progress across the street. The robbers had taken several people hostage, including children. Determined not to allow anyone to come to harm, Carolyne used her abilities to apprehend the criminals and free the hostages.

Despite her initial intentions, Carolyne found that she got a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment from helping people, and decided to continue to do so under the guise of Auren (a name she came up with based both on the visible manifestation of her powers as well as the aura she could perceive around people).

As Auren, Carolyne battled crime in Seattle, teaming with other local heroes as well as heroes from across the world. It was after one such adventure that she was invited to join the United Nations’ newly -ormed superhuman team code-named The New Alliance. It was during her adventures as a New Alliance member that she first met, and later fell in love with, her teammate Alexei Krylenkov, code-named Steel Wolf. After a long romance, the two eventually married.

In the aftermath of the Altairian invasion, Carolyne aided in rebuilding the New Alliance into an even more effective response team. She and Alexei continue to operate as team leaders to this day, dividing their time between their responsibilities on their Earth as well as their duties as members of the Empyrean Command and the Power Company.

Auren is a telepath of the highest order, able to perform a wide variety of effects with her powers. At the most basic, Auren is able to read the minds of individuals as well as project her own thoughts into the minds of others. She is highly skilled at circumventing mental barriers and shields, including those caused by memory loss or post-hypnotic suggestions. She is able to alter the memories of others according to her desires, making others remember, forget, or remember differently any details she so chooses. Auren is also able to alter another’s perceptions enough to cause them to perceive what she wishes. These mental illusions are convincing enough that the other senses are affected as well.

Auren is also able to project her consciousness into the astral plane, allowing her to perceive the thoughts and minds of others far beyond her physical limitations. Additionally, she is able to generate and project psionic bolts of sufficient force to render all but the most heavily-shielded minds unconscious.

Auren is also a high-order telekinetic, able to move objects with her mind. With this, she is able to levitate herself (as well as others) and fly. Her top speed is around 100 mph, the maximum speed she can both still breathe and concentrate. Auren is able to generate telekinetic force bolts strong enough to shatter solid concrete. She can vary the intensity of these bolts, enabling her to perform less destructive feats as well. She is also able to generate a telekinetic shield up to 100 feet in diameter from her position, protecting herself and any others within. Her shields have withstood very significant impacts, however, if the barrier is breached, the feedback could cause her to lose consciousness.

Auren has received advanced training in hand-to-hand combat, and is more than capable of defending herself even without the use of her abilities. Additionally, she maintains a highly regimented physical training program, as well as practicing gymnastics, and as such possesses a level of strength above that for a normal woman of her age and build. She is also a highly-skilled accountant, and has a natural affinity for math and numbers.
