Circus performer Sam “Bloppo the Clown” Bloberg accidentally interrupted an occult ceremony after a performance, causing the demon they were summoning to bond with him. Now trapped in his own body, his spirit undergoing constant torture at the hands of his demonic captor, he's forced to watch the horrors committed with his own hands. His agonies increase daily as the enraged demon is unable to free himself from Bloberg's mortal form.

Malachi was among a small group of individuals recruited by the arch-villain known as Empyre to be part of his organization known as The Citadel. Empyre keeps the raging demon at heel with promises of freeing him from the weakling mortal to whom he has been bonded.

While Sam Bloberg possessed no superhuman abilities, the demon Malachi, to whom Bloberg has become bonded, possesses a wide variety of mystic powers that have not been identified. However, as a result of the two becoming forcibly bonded with one another, Malachi’s full powers have been greatly restrained by Bloberg’s mortal nature. Their combined form possesses enhanced physical attributes including the ability to increase his form to superhuman size. In this form, Malachi possesses massive physical strength and durability, as well as a highly-accelerated healing factor, and the ability to sense and manipulate existing mystic energies to a limited degree, as well as drain the lifeforce/sould from his victims. These limits on his full natural powers enrages Malachi beyond measure.
