South african scientist Willem Bryant suffered an accident during an electrical experiment. As result he was left electrically charged and with a deadly touch. To protect those he loved he faked his death and start using an isolated rubber suit to control the electricity in his body. This suit concealed his identity and helped to control his powers.
Willem also used his new condition to fight crime as the Black Adder. He eventually joined the National Guardians.
