John Richards was ordered by sheriff Joseph Cavanaugh to shadow monster hunter Erica Slaughter. While on duty, he is ambushed by Tommy Mahoney and struck down. Coming by, he was immediately confrontated by three wounded people: Tommy, James and Bian, whom he all took to the hospital. Later, he brought Bian to the police station, where Bian was taken care of by Gail.
Upon learning that Erica Slaughter wanted to use James and Bian as bait to lure the monsters, he went to the police station to retrieve Bian. There he had a standoff with Erica Slaughter and Aaron Slaughter. Rebelling, Erica struck down Aaron and allowed John to take Bian to a safe place.
John Richards had taken Bian to his parents' house. There he was tracked down by Erica and Cecilia Slaughter. He was killed when Cecilia slit his throat and later shot him through the head because he interfered with Cecilia's orders to stop Erica Slaughter.
