Having come home from her time as a war hero fighting the good fight on the battlefield, Maria Diaz was overjoyed to return home so she could be reunited with the family she hadn't seen in years. A shortlived jubilation was held at their humble abode that would soon turn to tragedy when it was discovered younger sibling Xavier had the lack of sense to get on the wrong side of local mobsters working for the Zevala crime syndicate, a crew whose leader has deadly tithes to ancient Incan battle priests who conducted any manner of foul practices to accommodate greater power.
A grief-stricken Maria Diaz was saddened further to find that she was the only survivor of an attack that burned down her family house and left everybody else dead. More than a little irate at this tragic turn of events, Maria would seek justice for the grievous wrong committed against her family. But she found herself dismayed to find corruption running deep within the legislative structure of the town she grew up in. Seeing no alternative, she would take to the mean streets as a skull-face-painted vigilante, La Muerta, gratuitously enacting her vigilante justice on the cartel and its mysterious leader from the shadows.
