Eugene Hirsch is the private secretary to Ed Wiesburg, a prominent diamond merchant. When he sees Lieutenant Polk trying to investigate the company, he helps him. He provides him with the key information that the whole smuggling and profit-fixing scheme that Polk is trying to track down is really a plan to evade Grendel's normal cut of the profits.
Wiesburg also used to go out with Esther Wiesburg.
