Learning self-defense to cope with homophobic bullying in high school, Billy eventually used those skills to protect his home town from the newly-emerging Zompires. Unlike most vampire hunters, Billy was directly inspired by Slayers and self-identified as such, despite having no supernatural powers. He later moved to San Francisco, where he befriended and worked alongside Buffy Summers.
