Gyaos first appeared in the 1967 film Gamera vs. Gyaos. He appeared again in the 1969 film Gamera vs. Guiron  as Space-Gyaos. Later in the film 1980 film Gamera: Super Monster Gyaos once again battled Gamera. In the 1995 movie Gamera: Guardian of the Universe, Gamera battled three bird-like monsters called Gyaos. Gamera battled Gyaos yet another in the 1999 film  Gamera 3 : Awakening of Irys. He also battled a more power version of Gyaos called Hyper-Gyaos in the same film. Gyaos's latest appearance was in 2006 in the film Gamera the Brave where a swarm of Gyaos battled and killed Gamera but died along with him.
