James Heller is a former US marine living in New York with his wife and daughter. One day, he left them to battle some forces in another country. By the time he returned, his wife and daughter were killed by the Blacklight infection.
Since then, Heller plans committing suicide by joining forces in fighting with the marines until he got what he wanted. He is wounded in the fight, but Alex Mercer infected him with the Blacklight virus. Heller has a strong hatred for him since he is responsible for causing the plague. He has one mission: destroy Alex Mercer.
