Major Boothroyd was the long-serving Q of MI6, head of its research and technology division. He was responsible for providing advanced technological equipment to James Bond and other agents. While more than one actor has played the role, the face most recognized is that of actor Desmond Llewelyn. He depicted Boothroyd in 17 films from 1963 to 1999. Newer films depicted a successor Q from 1999 to 2002, played by John Cleese.
