Tom and Diane used to work together before Diane betrayed him by becoming a murderer in beginning of Season 9 Episode 1 And Then Were Fewer. After Diane was killed off in beginning of Season 9, Tom gets a new anchorman for Diane's replacement under name of Joyce Kinney.
