This city kitty is always looking for a fast buck along with his other pals of the Manhattan Alley Cats. Too bad Officer Charlie Dibble keeps getting in his way. Top Cat was loosely modeled on Sgt Bilko. Running from September 1961 to April 1962 there were only 30 episodes of the TV show.

UK name
As Top Cat was the brand name of a well-known cat food in the UK when the Top Cat began airing, the cartoon's title card was changed to refer to him as Boss Cat, although the opening theme and dialogue still used the Top Cat name. This name change persisted from 1962 to 1999, after which the cartoon reverted to its proper name, as the cat food brand was no longer on sale.
