Creation

Mike Hammer is a private detective created by Mickey Spillane, the character debuted in 1947 in the novel I, the Jury. Spillane was a comic book writer and created what can be considered Hammer's prototype, detective Mike Lancer, who debuted in Green Hornet Comics #10 (December, 1942). Even before launching I, the Jury, Spillane planned a comic strip in 1953 called "Mike Danger" which would be illustrated by Mike Roy.
