In his first battle with Superman, Amok was soundly defeated and imprisoned, an event that Superman completely forgot about months later. He was released years later by Brainiac, in his temporarily assumed guise of the Futuresmiths, and his powers were greatly augmented. He was almost defeated by Superman but was teleported away. He was then giving greater power by the Futuresmiths in exchange for a strand of Superman's hair that Amok was able to steal. He then attacked Superman again, and came quite close to defeating the Man of Steel, but before he could do so, his energy powers overloaded his body and he exploded, dying instantly.
