Creation
Animal Lad made his first appearance in Adventure Comics #331 titled "The Triumph of the Legion of Super-Villains", 1965.
Origin
Ennis Janhson first tried for Legion membership when the villainous Vorm, Dynamo Boy, took control of the Legion by expelling the other Legionnaires and then holding his own tryouts, looking for evil members. Although Animal Lad's ability to change animals into humans or humans into animals was deemed useful, he was rejected because of his innate incorruptibility. Saddened by the rejection, Ennis turned to the Metropolis Game Preserve Council for employment, and has been their Central Director for Endangered Species Control since the time.
Years later, Ennis joined the Legion of Substitute Heroes. He also became stuck between human and lion form
