BIOGRAPHY:

Due to the Central Power Battery on Oa being drained by the entity known as Maaldor, Green Lanterns across the universe ran out of power to their rings.

In pursuit of the Raiders of Kramtoo, the Green Lantern Cherniss's power ring lost its charge. Unable to stay aloft, the Green Lantern plunged to the planet's surface.

Maaldor was defeated, but at the expense of Arkkis Chummuck's life.

Blackest Night

Cherniss was memorialized in the Crypts of Oa beside his fellow Fallen Lanterns, but during the Blackest Night, he along many other fallen Lanterns was raised by a black power ring and became a Black Lantern.
