Following the death of Shadow Boxer, Violens is the new head of Enforcement in Bete Noire. While attending the first mass given by Jude, the town's new magistrate, he spots a bomb in the church and orders everyone to get out before they die in the explosion. As he chases the person responsible for this attack, Sirocco, she will throw a long dagger into his chest. Seriously injured, Juanita Jean arrives in time to help him and take him to the hospital.
