John was a former baseball player to whom the Overmaster gave equipment and drafted into the first Cadre. After they were defeated, Fastball went underground and was largely forgotten. He eventually returned to crime and joined the new Cadre under Doctor Polaris but was defeated by the Power Company.
Fastball has been identified as one of the deceased entombed below the Hall of Justice.
