When the evil Sivana ordered 3 of his cronies to kidnap Billy Batson, all 3 captured the wrong boy! Billy Batson from Brooklyn was a little on the short and tubby side and he, along with a tall Billy Batson from Texas and a Hill Billy Batson from Nashville, found themselves held prisoner by Sivana.
The three had recently learned from the real Billy Batson that he was Captain Marvel.
Sivana sent Billy a message to come as he was to his hideout or he would never see his namesake's again. Walking into a trap, Billy and his three namesake's found themselves tied to a log in a sawmill, with Billy gagged. Billy managed to get his gag off by holding his head just close enough to the saw. But the machinery was so loud that it drowned out his shouts. The other 3 Billies also shouted, and their voices were heard - suddenly there were 4 Captain Marvels!
The 3 "other" Billy Batson's quickly agreed that there was only one Captain Marvel and they would act as his Lieutenants. Fat Marvel, Hill Billy Marvel and Tall Marvel joined Captain Marvel for a while as the Squadron of Justice.
