She and Aqualad grew up together and he considers her to be more of a sister than a 'girlfriend', as Beast Boy so teasingly put it. Gill Girl becomes known as the "Creature from Jump City Bay" when she repeatingly comes upon the shore, looking for her real boyfriend, 'Nero'. As it turns out, Nero is a turtle in the local aquarium - he apparently had been caught and placed on ''display."
