Gold is one of the Metal Men created by Doctor Will Magnus. Like the rest of the Metal Men, he is powered by a responsometer, a nuclear - powered microscopic activator. This device animates his body and endows him with his distinct and decidedly human intelligence and personality.
Gold is the acknowledged leader of the Metal Men - he is intelligent and analytical and the others look to him for leadership. Recently his status as team leader has become somewhat of a joke. Platinum often berates him for being selfish and vain and putting Tin down, something she feels a leader should never do.
