Johnny is named after John Ostrander, a friend of Paul Kupperberg. Ostrander would later become a comic writer and go on to write for DC.
Major Story Arcs
Johnny was a neighbor in the new building Supergirl would move into. He showed instant kindness towards her, becoming fast friends with her. John would help the landlord, Ida Berkowitz (A Jewish woman.) feel safe when the building became a placement of a hate crime with the spray painting of swastika on her door. He would do normal rounds of the building with a bat to make her feel protected, something Linda would admire about him.
After Supergirl's death, the majority of her supporting characters were dropped, including John.
