Overview 

American poet, author and activist. Born in New York City, USA in May 27, 1819. After meeting Abraham Lincoln she was inspired to write the The Battle Hymn of the Republic". It went on to become of the most popular issues of its time. After this, she turned her attention to causes such as pacifism and women's suffrage. She even created the Mother's Day Proclamation, to further support and raise awareness of mother's day. "Arise, then, women of this day!, Arise, all women who have hearts, Whether our baptism be of water or of tears!"  Howe was also the founder and president of the Association of American Women, served as President for New England Women's Club,  Massachusetts Woman Suffrage Association, New England Suffrage Association, and the American Woman Suffrage Association. Howe was the first female to be inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
