Lead is one of the Metal Men created by Doctor Will Magnus. He is powered by a "responsometer", a nuclear powered microscopic activator. Not only does this device animate his body, but endows him with a distinct and decidedly human intelligence and personality.
Lead is rather slow - even cumbersome - but he is big-hearted and reliable. His ability to shield against harmful rays and radiation have frequently proved to be a very useful asset to the team.
