The nameless DEO agent who impersonated Mark Shaw was part of an experiment with Manhunter nanites, used under the supervison of Sarge Steele, then boss of the DEO. These nanites transformed the agent physical features and his mind into a copy of Shaw, asumning his whole identity, for the others around and even for himself. Under these conditions, he participated in a assault to Parador, the south american nation , sanctuary of the supervillian Eclipso.
Only after his death at the hands of Eclipso, the agent reverted to his original features. Onltyy Sarge Steele and the medics involved in the experiment and in the autopsy knew the truth about "Shaw"'s death, until the resurgence of the real Mark Shaw.
