Whereas the romantic tension between Captain Kirk and Janice Rand was pushed in the original Star Trek television series, in the "Mirror, Mirror" divergent reality, where the United Federation of Planets is instead the Terran Empire, Lieutenant Marlena Moreau is Kirk's private concubine. Portrayed by actress BarBara Luna, Moreau aids Kirk and his allies but is left behind in her native reality.

In DC Comics' Star Trek: The Mirror Universe Saga, Moreau once again helps a dimensionally-displaced Kirk against the Terran Empire. The two characters have a romantic encounter, and at the end of the story, Moreau remains in her native dimension to help rebuild in the wake of the Empire's defeat.
