Character History

A supporting character in the first twenty issues of the rebooted Wonder Woman after the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Mindi was first seen plotting to become Wonder Woman's publicist. Before being hired she was seen doodling potential secret identity names for Diana (and in a reference to the Silver Age, Diana Prince was written but discarded). She was displayed as a very ostentatious woman, very interested in appearance and otherwise not very empathetic. She initially approached Julia Kapatelis in order that she could talk to Wonder Woman on her behalf but Julia was initially reluctant. After seeing Diana having some difficulty dealing with the press and failing to convey her message of peace, Julia decided that maybe they should meet after all. Mindi downplayed her appearance appearing in more relaxed clothing so that she could impress Diana. After being hired Mindi, displayed the same behavior as before and was at times ruthless in terms of appearances and merchandising. When Mindi arranged a tribute to Wonder Woman in the Boston Common, Wonder Woman was attacked by the Silver Swan and some of Diana's inner circle began to question Mindi's intentions.

Upon returning from a visit to Greece, Diana was shocked to find that Mindi was dead. An investigation into the death found that Mindi had been corrupted by her newfound status as Diana's publicist, and that some people were interested in seeing her dead. Despite being found after being assaulted, it was concluded that Mindi had already been dead as the result of a drug overdose. She is also sometimes credited as Myndi.

Celebrity Corrupts

Mindi was one of the important supporting characters of the initial part of the Perez run on the Wonder Woman title. One of Perez's key themes was celebrity and the perils which come with it. This was reflected in various other characters to differing degrees - Diana, Vanessa Kapatelis, and the Greek god Hermes - but the center of the theme was Mindi. She is portrayed as a shallow person only interested in wealth and fame and the lifestyle that comes with it. She is often displayed as lacking understanding when some characters wish a more private life or for Diana's message to not be so commercialized. She came into conflict at times with Julia over comments she made to Vanessa encouraging negative behavior or attitudes. She was essentially the one extreme of celebrity while Julia was the opposite with her family values and traditional attitudes.
