Obidiah Olsen's life was a trainwreck of misfortunes before; under manipulations by Tao. His genes were rearranged by Dilemma, giving him multiple arms and access to teleporter & voice modulator technology.
He fought Gen 13 as part of his new employers plot to get Rainmaker to expand the scope of her powers. Even then things didn't improve for him.
Gambling debts piling up, his apartment owner threatening to toss him out, phone services being revoked and he was hunted by local crime syndicates for all the money he owed them. Inevitably almost being whacked by an underworld contractor in response.
Threshold forced Obidiah into working for him.
