History

When his famous warrior ancestor was overlooked in a celebration of local residents by the Gotham City Historical Society, frustrated minor scientist Arnold Hugo decided to test his latest invention on himself. Expanding the size and strength of his mind, the now deformed Hugo chose infamy over notability by staging outrageous attacks against the Historical Society as the "Wizard of 1,000 Menaces." Professor Hugo's mad rampage, including the creation of an artificial moon that imperiled the entire planet, was routed by Batman & Robin.

Later, Prof. Hugo moved to Middletown for another crime spree, and this time ran afoul of the Martian Manhunter and Zook. Hugo made it his personal mission to earn fame and respect by destroying the pair, but has failed in his numerous attempts, winding up back in prison each time.

Powers & Abilities

Since using his Brain-Stimulator, Professor Hugo's enlarged intellect has afforded him a gift for invention. For his first adventure, he developed a serum that caused a tiger to grow to the size of a house, a cannon that fired lightning bolts, jet-propelled skis, flying invisible robots, a death trap, and a device that could create an artificial moon in outer space. Besides briefly stealing the Martian Manhunter's powers in their first encounter, Hugo also demonstrated a "drill-ray," an anti-gravity beam, a force bubble, a knockout gas gun, a jet-car, an h-bomb grenade, and a disintegrator weapon. Next came a fireball rifle, a "melt-ray," and a device that turned Hugo into a giant. Later gadgets included a thought-control machine, a "stall ray," and a radioactive spray gun.
