Origin

The woman calling herself Quicksand is Anjelika Dugensa from Earth's future in the 31st century. Anjelika was a small time criminal extortionist working for a local small crime family. When they merged with a fellow crime family Anjelika and her partner Hald to a black market geneticist who would modify them and give them both fantastic powers. In this way Anjelika who would now go by Quicksand with the ability to convert solid matter into liquid form and vice versa, and Hald, now called Holdur, would be able to commit acts of crime without needing weapons. Her career as a criminal was gaining notoriety and she was marked by the Science Police. She and Holdur would be hired to assassinate the villain Pulsar Stargrave who would prove too powerful for the two.

Creation

Quicksand first appeared in DC Comics Superboy #223-We Can't Escape The Trap In Time!, 1977.

Major Story Arcs

Silver Age: Pulsar Stargrave

Quicksand and Holdur would go work for the megalomaniac after the failed assassination Pulsar Stargrave and attempt to take over the United Planets. This would place them directly into conflict with the Legion of Super-Heroes. When a team of Legionnaires went to the fortress of Stargrave and entered the throne room Quicksand quickly melted the ceiling and the floor of the area around the Legionaries thereby imprisoning them in solid matter. Saturn Girl would incapacitate Quicksand with a mental bolt from her telepathic abilities stopping her from killing them.

Reboot:

Quicksand would make another appearance but this time she would have the ability to convert her body to living quicksand, able to move her liquified/solid mix into powerful shapes and forms.

Powers and Abilities

Original:

Quicksand has the ability to convert solid matter into liquid and vice versa. The exact limits when it comes to area of affect has never been documented but she has done a large chamber in Stargraves compound. She must remain concentrating while using her abilities and once knocked out her effects would stop.

Reboot:

Later Quicksnads abilities would make a drastic change. No longer would she effect the surrounding area with the effect of solidifying or liquefying matter. In this incarnation she would be able to turn her body into liquid sand like state.
