The stoic and galant Redeemer is the leader of The Paladins.

Number of the Beast
Redeemer was one of the many golden age heroes of the Wildstorm universe captured for the Number of the Beast program. His decent and stoic attittude was the archetypical of the honest hero who have for motivation helps others. However seenms like Redeemer hides in his heart a secret shame and guilt of past sins than torment his soul and his heroic conduct is a penance in search for redemption.
When the High was added to the Number of the Beast program, a virtual reality where the heroes had to face once and again the biblical apocalypse, his irruption caused the illusion to be broken and the heroes awakening from the artificial dream. However this caused to activate measurements than lead to the end of the world. Now Redeemer and his companions were free on a destroyed world, again facing a man made apocalypse.
Gen13
Redeeme, leading the Paladins, went back to act as superhero. When the kids of Gen13 found them, the Paladins took them under their wings and tried to train them as heroes for this new world. Depsite the help of the Paladins, the Gen 13 crew choose to follow their way in the wasteland.
Wildcats End of the world
Eventually, Redeemer and the Paladins joined forces with the surviving heroes of the world, in an effort to restore somekind of order. But everything ewas menaced when the Red Blade appeared from the bleed, and threatened to kill all life on what was left of the earth.
Redeemer died heroically fighting against the Kheran LordSebastian. He and a team of heroes went on a suicide mission aboardthe Red Blade. They successfully took control of the shiftship and managed to send it back tothe bleedin pieces.
