Richard 'Gear' Foley was created by Denys Cowan and Dwayne McDuffie for the Static Shock animated series however his first comic appearance was in Static: Season One #1 - Episode One: Trial By Fire by Vita Ayala as writer and Nikolas Draper-Ivey as artist. The character was inspired by Richard Stone.
