Shadow Boxer, or Terrance, grew up in England, with a kind mother but a very violent and denigrating father. The man called Terrance a wimp, a weakling who doesn't know how to fight. He even told him that he should always stay in the shadows.

Terrance carried a rage in him and one day, while he was fighting with another boy, a man – Mr. Goode - noticed him and spoke to him. He told Terrance that he was good with his fists. He offered to help him, in exchange that he would one day work for him or for his descendants, for the city of Bete Noire. After he accepted without really knowing what all this meant, Mr. Goode gave him the power to teleport when he’s in the shadows. He can thus move or move people with him from one shadow to another.

Despite the treatment he reserved for him, Terrance loved his father and one day he was stuck in a mine, underground. He used his new power to save him but his father, traumatized by what he had just experienced, felt that their child was a demon and that he had to kill him. Terrance hid under a piece of furniture to protect himself and his mother, pregnant at the time, tried to intervene and reason with her husband. He hit her and made her fall to the ground; he came to kill the baby she was carrying. While the man realized his mistake, kneeling next to his wife, Terrance came out of his hiding place with a broom, knocked him out and killed him, mad with rage.

Shadow Boxer later became interested in boxing, hence the origin of his nickname. It was given to him by other boxers, who feel like they are hitting a shadow when they fight him. His skills in fighting and defending themselves came to the ears of Doctor Juris, the city's magistrate, and Shadow has been his henchman ever since. He is the one who does the arm work when necessary.

Shadow has been dating Black Mariah ever since she, while trying to kill him while she had a contract on him, realized that her powers had no effect on him. She immediately fell in love, because he is said to be the only man on earth immune to her magic.

Lee, Shadow Boxer’s nightmare

Shadow has hated Lee ever since she interfered in the affairs of his girlfriend, Black Mariah. He wishes Dr. Juris would let him get rid of her, but he protects her. He doesn't understand why Juris seems to be playing a game with her instead of eliminating her. Shadow doesn't know that they are having a secret affair.

One day he will surprise Lee at his home while she’s looking for Black Mariah. Despite his boss's instructions he will fight against her, but she’s physically much stronger and will dominate him. While she holds him by one leg in the air on a balcony, she asks him if Black Mariah is involved in the murder of one of her students. Shadow remains silent and Lee will drop him in the dumpster of a passing truck.

When Lee kidnaps Black Mariah a few days later, Boxer goes looking for her all over town. It’s only 24 hours later that he sees Mariah walking on a lost road, very badly. He understands that Lee tortured her and now he wants her head at all costs.

Lee will suspect Shadow of having placed a bomb in the college where she works because he was there after the explosion. While Shadow talks with Juris in her office, Lee arrives and wants revenge. Boxer says that he is not responsible for the explosion. She will grab him and throw him violently against a bookcase, but Juris will intervene and stop Lee. He will then force them to never fight again and ask them to leave.

Still in a spirit of revenge, a few weeks later Shadow will wait for Lee at her house, hidden in her bedroom closet. He has realized that Lee can be vulnerable when she is surprised. When she arrives and she does not expect it, he rushes at her, giving her a solid right in the stomach. Lee collapses and blood flows from between her legs. Shadow realizes, troubled, that she was pregnant. His past resurfaces, he thinks about his father and feels guilty. He will take Lee to the hospital, hoping that the baby is alive.

When Lee wakes up, Shadow comes to her to apologize. Lee tells her that she lost the baby but that she has no intention of killing him. Instead, she wants to take away from him what is most precious to him: Black Mariah. Boxer leaves the room, worried.

Even though it's very late, Shadow will show up at Juris's house to tell her what just happened. He tells Juris that Lee lost the baby she was carrying because of him, he explains how he attacked her at her house without knowing that Juris was the father of this child. Without realizing it, Shadow will sign his death warrant. Juris will take out his gun and kill him.
