Nathan was planning on having an easy flight with Carol to meet with her military contacts and the last thing he or Carol expected was for Carol's ex, Hal Jordan being their private plane's pilot.
Hal was nice and cordial to Nathan but sabotaged the lovers trip, by banking hard and spilling Nate's drink on his shirt causing him to go into the restroom. Then inside, Hal uses his ring to lock the door, leaving Nate trapped the rest of the trip.
