Paul Bodin, a retired circus escape artist, mentored Batman in the art of lock picking.
When his daughter is kidnapped, he becomes The Human Key and is forced to commit robberies for a gang of criminals. Bodin's skills allow the thieves to go on a crime spree as they defy the police and rob safes that were thought impenetrable.
Batman and Robin finally apprehend the gang, rescue Bodin's daughter, and ensure that he is exonerated from the crimes he was forced to commit.
