When Jack Ryder (the Creeper) was rehired by WHAM-TV's head of security Bill Brane, one of his assignments was to babysit the beautiful, but spoiled Weather Girl Vera Sweet. Ryder formed an instant dislike for Miss Sweet due to her prissy, flirty nature; Vera came to return the feelings when Ryder abandoned her several times to investigate a masked enforcer known as the Terror and Proteus. Vera continued to be an annoyance to Jack , even going so far as to publicly announce a false engagement (for publicity purposes). Despite those misadventures, Jack (as The Creeper) rescued her from the island hideout of Claw, The Supreme One. When Jack was framed for the crimes of his arch nemesis Proteus, Vera was one of the few people to believe in his innocence.
Creation
Vera Sweet was created by Steve Ditko in Beware the Creeper #1. Although, she may have been intended to be the love interest of Jack Ryder they never really had a romantic moment in any of the Steve Ditko stories.
