During World War II, The Archon was a Nazi sympathizer who ruled the small country of Lutzany. He conducted experiments on humans seeking to create an army of supermen. In the process, he created The Mark, a superhuman nearly as powerful as he. The Mark and The Archon battled. Thinking he had won, The Mark traveled the world to crush acts of genocide wherever he found them.

However, The Archon survived and, with Captain Midnight jettisoned into the future, was able to gain control over the two largest weapons manufacturers in the world: Sharkbyte and Albright Industries, Captain Midnight's tech company. Helping him along the way were Chuck Ramsey, and the villains Fury Shark, Phang, and Tempus.
