Doctor Facilier is based off of spiritual figure Baron Samedi, along with additional sources of voodoo concepts and ideologies.

Doctor Facilier isn't a character from the original The Frog Prince story, being an original character for Disney's version of the fairy tale.

Major Story Arcs

In the Disney's version of the fairy tale ''The Frog Prince'' now called The Princess And The Frog from 2009, Facilier is the evil voodoo sorcerer who transformed the prince Naveen into a frog. This curse was infectious, therefore when Naveen attempted to remove the curse, it simply passed onto Tiana, much to Facilier's enjoyment.

Throughout the movie, he uses his magic to ruin lives of as many people he can, finding enjoyment in his brutality. He taunted the frog duo, by finding it funny and ironic that his curse worked on whomever Naveen kissed, and cursed someone else instead of breaking his own. He fought with the frog heroes, where he was defeated when Tiana destroyed his magic amulet.

Doctor Facilier was dragged to the underworld as a brutal punishment for his cruel actions to innocent people and animals.

Doctor Facilier has been used since then as a major Disney villain part of promotional material.

Once Upon A Time

Doctor Facilier was a recurring character of the show final season, being a former flame of Regina's who once caused similar havoc to Tiana's life as he did in the original animated movie.

However present day, in the real world, Doctor Facilier used the alias "Baron Samedi" named after the voodoo tale that inspired the character. He showed interest in helping Regina track down the Candy Killer, only to be revealed to be behind the killer, who himself murders via voodoo doll. Doctor Facilier is shown to have a soft spot for children, refusing to ever hurt one, letting Lucy go after breaking into his apartment. He controlled Naveen in the the normal world, using him as a puppet to taunt Tiana, but once the curse was lifted, Naveen was freed. Doctor Facilier is later killed by a wish realm version of Rumpelstiltskin. Doctor Facilier was played by Daniel Francis.

Showrunners confirmed that if the show had got an eighth season, Doctor Facilier wouldn't have been killed off, but instead his relationship with Regina would've been further explored.

Descendants Franchise

In the Disney channel Descendants franchise of movies, TV-shows and books. Doctor Facilier is a former villain now exiled to the island of villains to be kept away from the heroes. He has a daughter named Celia, who continued her father's legacy as a magical con artist. Doctor Facilier unlike most villains is shown to be open to working with the heroes, as long as it means he gets something in return.
