He is the reason why Lightning McQueen ended up in Radiator Springs. Mack was so tired while driving to California that he began to fall asleep while driving along the freeway. He didn't realise that Lightning had rolled out the back of his trailer.
Mack later became Lightning's one-man Pit Crew, until Doc, mater & the rest of the gang from Radiator Springs joined him mid-way through the race.
