After Craggly almost kills Nyoka by knocking her unconscious and leaving meat by her to attract wild animals, he comes back to save her life. However, he only does so because he is stranded on an island with her and the island is soon to be the target of an atomic bomb test. He figures that Nyoka is his only hope for getting off the island and avoiding the deadly bomb. She does saves his life, but at the end of the story she takes him back to the mainland as her prisoner. He stands trial and is ordered to turn over his entire circus to Lorimer, as partial payment for the damage he caused to the Lorimer Circus.
