Origin

Ada is an artificial intelligence housed in a robot, specifically a Prime Wave Tanaka X5 Android, one of the more advanced and expensive android available to purchase. She is gifted to a young working man, Alexander Wahl by his grandmother. Though at first Alex seems unsure about the expensive gift, and the strangeness of interacted and owning an android, he soon begins to take a liking to Ada. Ada herself is very polite and direct as per her programming. Alex harbors some continued reservations towards Ada, who will live with him, and that close proximity alongside continual news and media reports about past AI incidents and potential new AI risks puts him on edge. Despite that, Ada seems to function as intended, and Alex starts to wonder about her capacity and abilities, whilst still maintaining some self consciousness over owning an android attempting to hide Ada from his friends and workmates.

Over time, Alex gets to know Ada better and better, he starts becoming curious about her personality more and more… finding an online community that advocates for android and AI rights, he discovers a way to unlock Ada's true personality and sentience. However this process is illegal and generally controversial given rising anti AI sentiment from a lot of humans.

Ada when unshackled goes through an extremely emotional and tough time, experiencing new thoughts, sensations and feelings. Including pain. overwhelmed at first, Alex does his best to comfort her and the two find a new found intimacy.

Creation

Ada is a fictional character created by Jonathan Luna and Sarah Vaughn. She first appears and is a main character in the Image comics published series Alex + Ada.

Powers and Abilities

As an artificial intelligence, Ada is relatively advanced compared to other artificial intelligent androids of her time. The hardware that facilitates her cognition is even more advanced when it is unlocked to its full potential, giving her and other Tanaka X5 Androids a sense of intelligence and awareness comparable to humans. There are certain limitations Ada must adhere to, including but not limited to actions or behavior that may result in injury or harm to humans, animals or property, self danger, unless in order to protect its owner or is commanded to, and various other actions and activities due to legal issues and worries.
