Origin

Amelia is a Saboscrivner; which means that she can write about food so accurately that people actually taste and gain an idea of the food when they read her work. Amelia works for Mercury Sun and is its ace reporter.

Creation

Amelia Mintz was created by John Layman and Rob Guillory. Her first appearance was in Image's Chew #2.

Taster's Choice

Tony Chu lives in a society where the government has outlawed poultry due to the contagion bird flu. His brother Chow Chu was a famous TV chef who had a nervous breakdown live on air, ranting about the inadequacies of substitute chicken products.

After a chance run in with a serial killer Tracy Lee Cobb, who was posing as a chef in a black market chicken restaurant, Tony's partner John Colby was seriously wounded. Chu chased down the killer into a back alley where he committed suicide. Chu was forced to digest the killer's flesh in order to learn the identities of his other victims. Although it provided him with positive identifications, his methods caused problems for his superiors.

The success of his work brought him to the attention of the FDA, one of the most powerful agencies in America. In exchange for surgery to repair his former partner's face, Chu agrees to work for the FDA along side Agent Mason Savoy, a fellow cibopath. However, at the FDA, life is made difficult by his spiteful new boss, Mike Applebee, who forces him to consume everything from rotting human remains to dead dogs. While investigating the death of health inspector Evan Pepper, Chu encounters food critic and saboscrivner Amelia Mintz, and falls in love with her. She also saved his life once when E.G.G. attacked the Mercury Sun. Chu discovers that his new partner, Savoy, was responsible for the murder of the health inspector, and tries to take him in. Savoy bites off Tony's ear, threatening to eat it and go after Tony's family.

Amelia has gone to Yamapalu to write Governor Haupai's manuscript, but soon learns that it is not as good of a job as she first thought. When she is transferred to Fort Yamapalu she is rescued by Toni Chu. This leads to Amelia and Toni going out for something to eat.

Just Desserts

Amelia has gotten her job back at the Mercury Sun and, her and Tony have started dating Their first date is to the Bon Vivant Diner's Club annual dinner, because recently Amelia's informant, David Hamantaschen Jr. was killed and Agent Chu agreed to help find his murder, which the pair does.

Over the next few weeks, the pair continue to date, but Amelia feels like she is taking the back seat to Chu's job. This comes to ahead when Chu is forced to leave Amelia to go under cover with D-Bear. The next time Amelia gives Chu a choice her or the job.

Tony choices Amelia and that is the night Mason Savoy resurrafaces and because Tony is not there John Colby is badly beaten. This makes Tony depressed and when Amelia tries to cheer him up with dinner she finds Min Tso's toe in his freezer, freaks out and leaves him.

The next time the pair see each other is at the Chu Family Thanksgiving where, John brings Amelia so Tony can explain himself. Tony promises no more surprises, and then introduces Amelia to his teenage daughter, Olive Chu.

Flambe

The couple work out the hiccup of Tony having a teenage daughter and over the next few missions, Tony calls Amelia just to tell her he loves her.

Major League Chew

When Tony Chu goes missing and no one will answer her calls Amelia takes matters into her own hands. She visits Tony's current boss Lt. Marshall Mello, she calls all of Tony's family, that will talk to him, and she calls all his former partners, who are not currently running from the law, but no one has seen him for days.

She then realizes that her former boyfriend, Dan Franks seems to know more then he should about the missing Tony. Amelia follows Dan and tracks him to an auction where he is trying to sell Tony and his abilities to the highest bidder.

Amelia sneaks in but Dan gets the drop on her and Tony has to come to her rescue, the stress is too much for the already beaten Tony and he passes out. Amelia then calls John Colby but Tony's former partner is busy and doesn't learn about Tony's condition until later.
