Major Story Arcs
Dagmar is the child of Aldric II of Solas, who is one of the Kiros Three, the most powerful Humans in the city of Kiros. The Kiros Three are generally manipulative and power-hungry; Dagmar, on the other hand, is independent and caring.
Dagmar is a fairly powerful magician for a Human. Valorie, a notable royal-trained Elf magician herself, said she had never seen a Human use magic as powerful as Dagmar did. It is unknown whether her ability is all natural or required training.
One of the other Kiros Three, Elea Veris (and possibly Aldric II and Elea's husband Galal III although this is unclear), revives an attempt to create synthetic magic. She eventually breaks Master Lysanthir, who originally developed the idea, out of prison to help make it work.
To ward off any Black Cloak investigations into the process, Elea captures a variety of magic-sensitives and puts them in machines that help them control the giant creatures known as Dragyern. Dagmar is one of these people. She is forced to use the Dragyern to kill anyone who knows about the project. This is a painful process for the people who control the Dragyern and their memories are erased repeatedly.
At some point Dagmar somehow escapes and finds the Black Cloaks Pax and Essex, who are investigating the murders. First she finds Valorie, one of Essex’s friends. Valorie brings her to Pax and Essex. Dagmar then uses magic to defeat a Dragyern, impressing everyone but putting her into a light coma.
Eventually she awakes and Valorie helps recover her memories. She is shocked that Elea, who was like a mother to her, would do such a thing. After that she helps the Black Cloaks continue their investigation. Eventually they free the Dragyern (with Elea being killed in the process) and capture Lysanthir. The synthetic magic is given to the Prime Minister, who uses it to help the city.
Over the course of this adventure, Dagmar and another woman who helps the Black Cloaks, Renna, start flirting and eventually become a couple, matched by their acerbic senses of humor.
