Along with Amanda, Yoshi, Liam and Gabriel, he is part of the small group of friends who discovered the Undernet when they were teenagers.
Recently, a leak occurred, people were able to access the Undernet and Gabriel needs his friends from that time to find a way to plug it before it's too late. So he will pay for their first class plane ticket and invite them to go to a 3-story hotel in Pennsylvania, which he has rented out in its entirety to make it their headquarters. The hotel is located near the place where Gibson Lane, a 15-year-old, has just killed nearly 60 people in his neighborhood.
Darren and Amanda's initial mission was to go to the house where Gibson was staying in order to set it on fire and thus eliminate any trace linked to the Undernet. As they scatter gasoline around the house, they realize that a person is still there. Before lighting the fire, they decide to go in and get her out. In Gibson's room, they discover Fausta, sitting in front of a computer, in a trance caused by the Undernet. Thanks to their knowledge on the subject, they manage to get her out of her position but she seems possessed. Meanwhile, PH34R, who was watching the scene from outside, sets fire to the house. Surprised by the fire, Darren and Amanda still manage to get Fausta out. They then take Fausta with them to the hotel, to try to cure her of her exposure to the Undernet.
Later, while he goes out to smoke with Yoshi, Darren sees two FBI agents lying in the hotel parking lot. Nicky Gallo is dead, but Siobhan Silk is injured in the shoulder. They help her and give her first aid, while learning that it was the work of PH34R.
Darren, Liam, Amanda and Yoshi then surprise PH34R stabbing Gabriel in a room of the hotel. Darren forces her away from Gabriel by threatening her with his gun, but the latter was already seriously injured. Some of them want to kill PH34R but Gabriel asks them to let her go, because they will need her to put an end to all this. PH34R leaves, but Gabriel dies peacefully in Liam's arms shortly after. Gabriel has time to tell them that he has just destroyed the Internet on the entire planet and that there is only one network left available to continue the fight: w0rldtr33.net.
