Origin

For the past 13 years Evan Pepper has been a health inspector for the state of New York, with territories concentrated around Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He was recently divorced from an ex-wife that won't talk to him and alimony payments that he will never be able to pay. He lives in a two-bedroom apartment in Park Slope with his miniature dachshund named Mr. Butterworth.

Note: Mr. Butterworth is dead and eaten by Chu and Mason Savoy

Creation

Evan Pepper was created by John Layman and Rob Guillory for their series Chew. Evan Pepper first appeared in issue #2 as a finger and a flashback. His real fate was revealed i issue #5.

While working Evan Pepper discovered a warehouse full of illegal chicken meat, he got grabbed by some henchmen and his finger got chopped off as a warning. But he never made it out of the warehouse, because he was killed by Mason Savoy. The F.D.A. agent killed Pepper to keep him quite about what he found.

Later Evan's finger ended up in a burger, where it was discovered by Daniel Cornblum and given to Tony Chu, the FDA cibopath, to eat and solve the murder.
