His true origins unknown, the man named Furnace was turned into a living being of plasma that needed a high-tech battle suit that the villain, Machine Head, provided for him. Following Machine Head's defeat at the hands of both Invincible and the Guardians of the Globe, Furnace was tasked by Titan to team up with Kursk to free Multi-Paul from Stronghold Penitentiary but failed and were imprisoned. Furnace is later seen fighting Invincible so it is assumed that he escaped.
