Gregory Bell
Creator of a world-renowned web search tool, Angel.
Gregory Bell dedicated fifteen years of his life to developing and creating the world's most sophisticated and widely used Internet search engine: Angel.
1999
After discovering the existence of the Undernet and realizing the danger it posed, Gabriel and his friends sought a way to permanently seal access to it. However, they quickly realized they needed the help of Angel and its creator, Gregory Bell. Determined to get his attention, they set a trap for Gregory while he was driving, forcing him to stop and listen to them at gunpoint.
Gabriel and his friends explained what the Undernet was and allowed Gregory to access it for a few minutes, under Gabriel's guidance. They then asked him to destroy Internet servers to prevent anyone else from accessing the Undernet.
After witnessing the chaos the Undernet could cause, Gregory became intrigued and wanted more. He negotiated a deal: in exchange for his help, he wanted the opportunity to access the Undernet a few more times. However, instead of blowing up Internet servers as requested, Gregory proposed a different solution. He offered to deploy Angel's most advanced web crawlers to map the exact points where the Undernet infiltrated the normal Internet. This method would allow them to destroy only the infected terminals without breaking any laws, as all the hardware belonged to him.
Gregory also proposed integrating Gabriel into Angel's team so he could develop an early-warning system while the rest of the team continued mapping the traditional Internet. Gregory agreed that if Gabriel wanted to hire his friends, he had no objection, but his sole point of contact would remain Gabriel. After a brief discussion, Gabriel and his friends accepted Gregory's offer.
In the following weeks, only Gabriel ended up working for Angel. Gregory never heard from the other four friends again. As the year 2000 approached, the tech industry was primarily focused on Y2K and rewriting core codes for hardware and software. As a result, Gregory's attention shifted away from the Undernet. However, Angel had still managed to implement some security measures against this emerging threat.
2024
After Gabriel destroyed the Internet following a series of murders linked to the Undernet, Gregory agreed to collaborate with the FBI to find a way to restore it. In exchange, Gregory demanded that he not be held responsible for the failure of the security measures he had previously implemented. He placed full blame on Gabriel, who, despite Gregory's trust, had caused significant damage.
What Gregory did not know was that Gabriel had continued working on the Undernet in secret. Gabriel's ultimate plan was to destroy Internet access entirely by using Angel against it.
