Major Story Arcs
Kei, a Fairy, lives with her husband Theron II, a Black Cloak, in the Trees section of Kiros. They have several young children: Joya, Auberon, Zin, Typha, and Sagitta. She is a jeweler.
During the first arc of the series, it seems that only Joya has been born so far. Kei enjoyed playing with her around the house but also wanted to resume her work as an artist. Unfortunately it was difficult for her to find time to it.
At the time, she was friendly with Phaedra Essex, Theron’s partner, but didn’t see her regularly.
When Phaedra destroyed a machine that sucked the magic out of the cute animals known as Taka, it caused a huge fire and flood throughout the most vulnerable parts of the city, which had unknowingly been reliant on the machine’s magic. Joya lost her wings in the fire. Theron was against Phaedra’s destruction of the machine and they didn’t see each other for five years.
Theron eventually tracked down Phaedra to get her help with a case. They bonded again after a short time of tension. When they visited Kei and Theron’s house, Kei was welcoming to Phaedra, unlike many in their area.
Kei formally introduced all the kids to Phaedra and some of her other friends then. They also brought a big group of Taka.
When Phaedra mentioned their current mystery, the kids all got excited to solve it. According to Theron, they all loved crime. Joya sulked off to the side, reminded of the loss of her wings. Kei, meanwhile, offered everyone a munificent amount of food.
Phaedra left her old set of mech wings for Joya, who was afterwards very excited to be able to fly again.
As the mystery deepened and became more dangerous, Phaedra and Theron decided to bring all their friends and family to a safehouse to protect them. Kei and all her kids joined their other friends at the old house of Phinneas III of Thane—Phaedra’s father, and the Prime Minister of Kiros.
They were excited to be there because it made them feel rich. They also wanted to continue to help solving crimes.
Phaedra and Theron end up solving the mystery (without the kids’ help!).
