After the Unknown War, the fallout mutated much of the animal kingdom. One such animal was Manco, a gorilla who could communicate through sign language and was an attraction at the High Plain Zoo. The fallout caused him to grow an extra pair of arms. At night, hunters would come looking for pure animals to sell for food and fur and kill the mutants for being aberrations. Manco typically hid until he crossed paths with Barney, the two headed dog of the hero, Geiger. Barney fought the hunters and inspired Manco to lead the zoo mutants into the fight. Taking a poncho from one of the hunters to resemble the version of Manco on the zoo logo, he quickly made a reputation as the guardian of the zoo.
